New 2016 Camaro is Lighter but Better than Ever

The new Camaro is bringing some new capabilities to market this year—and that’s mostly thanks to an improved body and design. Perhaps we should simply say “all-new” instead of just “improved,” because this 2016 Camaro only shares two parts with its 2015 model sibling. The new design is 200 pounds lighter, has improved rigidity, and as a result, has better steering, suspension, and driving dynamics overall.

“The structural weight savings are compounded by opportunities to reduce un-sprung weight,” says program engineering manager Jim Karlavage.” “The result is a more nimble driving experience.” With the 200 pound diet, the Camaro actually weights less than even the Ford Mustang. Not only does that improve driving dynamics, but it should improve fuel efficiency as well.

You’ll get to see the new Camaro (finally) at Detroit’s Belle Isle Park, on Saturday, May 16. For now, though, you can come see us here at Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet to learn more about either the current or next-gen model of the Camaro. We’ll be waiting to show off the Camaro to you here, so come by for a test drive today!

Much Cheaper Camaro Z/28 vs. Porsche 911 GT3 – Who Wins?

Comparisons have been drawn between the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and the Porsche 911 GT3 since the vehicles’ births, both sporting a minimalist vibe while absolutely slicing the track. There’s only one major difference between them: The Camaro is $55,000 cheaper.

Given that amazing price drop and the cars’ similarities, could the Camaro Z/28 actually be a better option than the Porsche 911 GT3? Motor Trend attempted to settle this score, putting the vehicles head-to-head. You can watch the video here.

Camaro Z/28 vs. Porsche 911 GT3The results are pretty easy to guess, since the Camaro’s specs are slightly inferior to the Porsche’s down-the-line. For example, while the Porsche can hit 60 mph in 3.1 seconds, it takes the Camaro about 4 seconds – still an astonishing number.

Even though the Camaro loses this tight race – Camaro Z/28 vs. Porsche 911 GT3 – the fact that it’s a full $55,000 cheaper makes one wonder which model really has won.
