When you’re competing in one of the most well-known automotive races in the world, you want to make sure you’re backed by the best of the best. That’s why it comes as no surprise that Fernando Alonso’s 2019 Indianapolis 500 entry will be driven by Chevrolet’s 2.2-liter twin-turbocharged direct-injected V6 IndyCar engine.

Chevrolet Power

Chevy’s engine has gained a reputation for powering Indy 500 winners. Since its 2012 introduction to the IndyCar Series, it has powered four winners. “It will be a privilege to wear the Bowtie Brand at the 2019 Indy 500,” said Alonso. “Having Chevrolet power behind me means we’re putting ourselves in the best possible position to compete at the front.”

2-Time Formula 1 Champ

Alonso is a two-time Formula 1 champion, winning in 2005 and 2006. He’s currently in the all-time sixth place driver with 32 victories and 97 podium finishes. He will be racing in the 2019 Indy 500 as a McLaren Racing entry, bringing both talent and passion to the track.

Can-Am Series

This isn’t the first time Chevrolet and McLaren have partnered up. In 1966, the two car-makers worked together in the Can-Am Series, winning more than 70 percent of the races over the next seven years. Make sure you tune in to watch the 2019 Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 26. We at Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet near Hickory, NC will be!
