2018 Centennial Editions Celebrate 100 Years of Chevrolet Trucks

100 Years of Chevrolet Trucks

100 Years Of Greatness

Today, Chevrolet is one of the world’s foremost producers of high-feature trucks that drivers depend on for everything from work to play and everything in between. Such success doesn’t happen overnight, though. In fact, 2018 marks 100 years of Chevrolet trucks. Here at Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet, we want to celebrate by taking a look at some highlights from a century of Chevy trucks.

Game-changing origins

The first purpose-built Chevrolet truck was first available 100 years ago, in 1918. The Chevrolet One-Ton was a budget-conscious, flexible truck platform available as a cowl and chassis or an express body with an option eight-post curtain top. The One-Ton was available for just over $1,000 and delivered 36 horsepower. Perhaps this doesn’t sound like much, but this was just the first in a line of now legendary Chevrolet trucks.

Legendary Legacy

By the 1960’s, Chevrolet trucks came in a variety of models and had huge appeal to drivers of all sorts. The 1967 C/K10 Series is a particular stand-out and signaled a shift in style that foreshadowed the signature look of modern classics like the Silverado. The C/K10 Series was affordable but boasted considerably more torque and power than early models like the original One-Ton.

Leading the way in performance and innovation

The 2018 Chevrolet Centennial Edition Silverado and Centennial Edition Colorado represent 100 years of automotive innovation, and one minute behind the wheel makes it obvious how much has gone into these impressive pickups.

Whether you need a powerful truck for the work site or a versatile weekend warrior, there has never been a better time to get a Chevrolet Truck than now, and you can find plenty of pickups here at Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet in Newton, NC. We would love to help you find the perfect truck for you today!

Tire Wear Signs: Do You Need New Tires?

tire wear signs

Don’t Go Bald

Tires are only vehicle components that touch the road, yet many drivers neglect their tires until it’s too late. While it’s difficult to provide a standard rule of thumb for how long you can drive before tires wear out—as tire wear usually varies by driver, region, and model—there are a few signs that your tires might be in bad shape.

According to How Stuff Works, there are many tire wear signs. One of the biggest things to look for is cracks in the sidewall. If you notice that your tires are starting to crack and appear worn, this is usually a sign that your tires are about to give out. Even if the tread is fine, cracking can be a serious issue.

Bulging and blistering is also a bad sign. While it’s rare to find bulges in your tires, it’s usually a sign that there’s a weak spot in the architecture of the tire. When there’s a weak spot in the rubber, that may be a sign that you are about to have a blowout.

Finally, check for bald spots and wear. One way to check tire tread is the penny test. Simply flip a penny upside down and put it in the middle of the tire tread. If you can see above Abe’s head, you may need new tires. Additionally, if you notice uneven wear (like bald patches), then you need to get new tires.

Looking for a new set of tires? You can have a professional technician inspect your tires or you can buy tires here at Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet in Newton, NC. Schedule an appointment today.

Benefits of Lifted Trucks: Should You Buy a Lift Kit?

Lifted Is Gifted

Why Buy A Lifted Truck?

Many truck owners prefer lifted trucks for a variety of reasons. In addition to the aesthetic appeal for many drivers, lifted trucks also provide improved visibility, a more comfortable daily drive, and better off-road capabilities. Whether you’d like a better way to explore dirt trails or you’re simply looking for a way to make your truck stand out, there are several benefits of lifted trucks.

It’s More Fun

According to Truck Trend, many prefer to drive on lifted trucks because daily driving is more enjoyable. For example, a Silverado with a 35-inch tire and 20-inch wheel has plenty of rubber to absorb any bumps or potholes. Larger diameter wheels not only add visible appeal, but they also tend to make driving more comfortable.

Better Visibility

Additionally, lifted trucks improve visibility. While a subcompact hatchback may be more affordable than a lifted truck, you’ll have a much better view of the road when you drive a lifted Silverado. As Harley Camilleri writes for Truck Trend, “With the truck’s inherently taller design, adding a suspension lift to the equation allows the driver and passenger alike a much clearer view of the road ahead and better ability to avoid a possible hazard, or slowing traffic farther ahead.”

Superior Off-Road Vehicles

Finally, lifted trucks are simply better off-road. With added ride height, you can easily clear obstacles like tree limbs, water, rocks, and ruts. Whether you’re driving on dunes or through snowy plateaus, a lifted truck affords many opportunities you simply don’t get with other vehicles.

Chevrolet and DoSomething.org Launch Ride & Seek Campaign

Ride & Seek Campaign

Driving Safe This Fall

Safety Matters Most

Wearing a seatbelt is common sense for many drivers, but the teenage demographic often seems to have missed the memo. Despite warning signs and reminders all over the road, young drivers have a tendency to forego wearing a seatbelt. That’s prompted Chevrolet to partner up with DoSomething.org to launch the Ride & Seek campaign.

Promoting Seatbelt Usage

Designed to promote seatbelt usage among teenagers, the Ride & Seek campaign features a text message-based experience that allows teens to print a campaign poster and share it via text. Doing so will net teenagers a chance to win a $5,000 scholarship.

Engineered For Safety

“We are pleased to work with an organization like DoSomething.org to help spread the message about the importance of seat belt use,” said Tricia Morrow, Chevrolet’s safety engineer. The campaign initially launched a series of videos and includes many internet celebrities. The first video, titled “Amanda Steele Plays the Guessing Game,” features none other than Amanda Steel, star of a fashion-related YouTube channel. Steele also has a role in Guidance, a Hulu show.

Ride & Seek Campaign

The Ride & Seek campaign has a final goal of getting more teenage drivers to make use of their seatbelts. A vital safety feature that comes standard in every vehicle, seatbelts are the most basic first line of passenger protection in a collision.

We here at Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet in Newton, NC hope to see seatbelt usage rise among teenage drivers.

Four-Wheel Drive vs All-Wheel Drive

Four-Wheel Drive vs All-Wheel Drive

What’s The Difference Between Four-Wheel Drive vs All-Wheel Drive?

A capable vehicle is one that can withstand the elements, even when they threaten to make driving difficult. The automotive industry has developed several systems to deal with slick roadways, but which one is right for you? Here’s a quick guide on four-wheel drive vs all-wheel drive from us here at Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet in Newton, NC.

Four-Wheel Drive vs All-Wheel Drive

Four-wheel drive systems split the torque evenly between the front and rear axles. While this provides more traction, a truck can’t be driven safely on dry pavement. As a result, four-wheel drive is primarily used when off-roading or driving through snow. Drivers can revert their vehicle to two-wheel drive, which earns better fuel economy, by turning the four-wheel drive system off.

All-wheel drive systems send torque to the wheel with the least amount of grip, also known as the path of least resistance. Since the system does this automatically, all-wheel drive vehicles are great for all road surfaces. All-wheel drive systems cannot be turned off. As a result, vehicles equipped with the system tend to earn lower fuel economies.

Which One is Right for You?

Drivers in cold or varying climates year round are best off with an All-Wheel drive system. Those who value fuel economy and don’t always need maximum traction will be better off with a four-wheel drive system.

How to Pack Your Car for Camping

Chevy Makes Camping Easy

This summer is the perfect time to pack up your car and hit the open road for a camping trip with your family and friends. Before you go, read through our tips on how to pack your car for camping, and consider visiting Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet for the all-new 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, which offers up to 63.7 feet of cargo volume, perfect for storing camping supplies, and up to 31 miles per gallon on the highway, ideal for road trip driving on a budget.*

Have a plan

Before haphazardly throwing all your camping supplies into whatever nook and cranny you can find, survey the space offered by your vehicle. It helps to lay out all of your supplies, studying their shapes and sizes, to develop a plan to fit them in safely and efficiently.

Think of convenience

If there are any items you’ll need to get to during the drive, make sure you have easy access from the trunk or, even better, your seat. Consider which way zippers are facing when packing, too, so you won’t have to pull a bag out of the car to get inside it.

Don’t neglect the heavy stuff

You’ll want to put the heavier items in first, below the highest point of the rear seat. In the event of a sharp turn or stop—or worse, an accident—you’ll want heavy items low to the floor and secure, so that they don’t go flying.

Happy travels from all of us at Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet in Newton, NC!
