Hanging Rock Scenic Byway

This beautiful stretch of road runs through Stokes and Surry counties. Along the way, you can take in the sites Hanging Rock State Park and enjoy 20 miles of trails, which take you to some stunning waterfalls, (which may even be frozen during winter).

Blue Ridge Parkway

Head into the Great Smoky Mountains via the Blue Ridge Parkway, a 252-mile road that takes you through the beautiful mountains of North Carolina and Virginia. Along the way, you can stop at Mount Mitchell State Park, which contains the highest peak in the eastern United States.

Whitewater Way

You’ll have to drive a couple hours to make it to this 9-mile stretch of road, but trust us — it’s worth it. This drive goes past Gorges State Park with a tremendous waterfall — a towering 411 feet tall. It’s quite a gorgeous site in the wintertime; just make sure you bundle up!
