Chevy Partners with NNPA to Offer “Discover the Unexpected” Fellowship

“Discover the Unexpected” fellowship

Expect The Unexpected

Chevy recently partnered with the National News Publishers Association (NNPA) to create a fellowship at Howard University. This funding opportunity is geared towards communications students, especially those that aim to report on African American communities.

Called the “Discover the Unexpected” fellowship program, Chevy says this opportunity is designed to show the positive stories of men and women who are truly making a difference. The award winner will be selected from a panel of NNPA publishers, editors, and Howard University faculty. They will be paired with NNPA professional advisors, and will deliver a range of stories.

“The ‘Discover the Unexpected’ fellowship program will highlight and celebrate positive stories of men and women making a tremendous impact in their communities,” said Paul Edwards, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet Marketing.  “Chevrolet is fully committed to this important initiative.  We believe our DTU fellows are leaders in the next generation of African American journalists and storytellers, and we are proud to support them in their mission to create meaningful narratives that foster a collective sense of pride.”

Lyricist and hip-hop artist MC Lyte has agreed to be the program’s national spokeswoman. All of us at Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet in Newton, NC can’t wait to see what comes of this inspiring project.

Chevy Youth Baseball Clinic

Chevy is supporting youth programs by participating in the 2016 Chevy Youth Baseball Clinics. Dealers countrywide are participating in this absolutely free instructional clinic. They are funded by dealers in order to give participants the opportunity to receive training and go outside. Again, this is at no cost whatsoever. Just think of it as Chevy’s way of giving back and saying thanks.

According to Chevy, clinics operate on a first-come-first-serve basis. You can sign up for a range of dates in your area. The clinics will operate countrywide. Players spend a half-day learning the fundamentals, including hitting, pitching, and fielding. Professional instruction is provided by current or former MLB and Minor League players and coaches, or the specialized Ripken Baseball staff.
