The Chevrolet Malibu, in its 2014 edition, has another award to add to the trophy shelf. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named the Malibu a Top Safety Pick+, making it officially one of the safest cars on the road, both in its own class and in general. To receive the award, the Malibu had to earn “Good” ratings in at least four of five crash tests, as well as offer a frontal crash protection system approved by the IIHS.
The Malibu surpassed those strict requirements by earning “Good” ratings, the highest rating given by the IIHS, across the board. “We are very pleased that the IIHS has recognized the safety of the Malibu with this prestigious rating,” Gay Kent, the general director of GM Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness, said. “Customer safety is our guiding compass; this serves as a testament to that.”
That compass also led the Malibu’s designers to add the optional Advanced Safety Package to the 2014 sedan, which uses cameras to search the area in front of your vehicle and immediately report any possible problems back to the driver.
